Vanessa Marcil: I WILL RETURN

Soap Opera Weekly: May, 2003

Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda Barrett, General Hospital) made a bold announcement backstage at The 30th Annual Daytime Emmys Awards, right after nabbing the Outstanding Supporting Actress Emmy: "I will always come back to the show - always, no matter what," she declared.

The popular star asserted this even after learning earlier in the week that her prime-time series, Las Vegas, co-starring Josh Duhamel (ex-Leo du Pres, All My Children), got picked up for the fall season. "It is one of my most surreal weeks ever," she marveled. "I'm not sure what is going on."

One thing is for certain: If Marcil were to return to GH, she would need a flexible schedule. "I only auditioned, after I left the show, for ensemble shows," she explained. "I told them I didn't want to work more than two or three days a week because I wanted to spend more time with my son (Kassius). So this is a dream job for me - it is an amazing show and I am one of six lead characters. This schedule is going to be nothing like it was at GH." Marcil begins work on Las Vegas at the end of July.

Working with Duhamel is also a dream for Marcil. "I feel honored to be on a show that he is the lead in," she praised. "My prediction is that he will be a big star within five years."
